COOL THINGS I DID AT DORDT
I started the Dordt men's club volleyball team my freshman year and saw that turn into an NAIA varsity sport by my junior year. It will be so cool to come back to Dordt in 20-30 years to watch a men's volleyball game and be able to say that I (along with my teammates) were the first ever Dordt men's volleyball team, and even crazier to think that we started the whole program.
OBSTACLES I'VE OVERCOME
The first year of college was a big transition for me. I struggled to find my true self and the plan for my life. I ended up taking a break for a while to do non-profit work with a ministry in Haiti. The Lord led me back to Dordt with a rejuvenated spirit and renewed sense of passions to be pursued.
WHO I WAS WHEN I CAME TO DORDT
My faith was not yet my own. I was excited and optimistic for the opportunities that Dordt College would present, yet scared and timid of the challenges. A declared elementary education major, I had--for the most part--the rest of my life planned out. Little did I know, God had much more in store for me than I could ever comprehend.
HOW DORDT IMPACTED ME
I was challenged for the first time in my life to not only try to see things through the eyes of those around me, but also to try to see things through the eyes of Christ. The choices that I make go so much further than impacting only my life—they impact my friends, classmates, teammates, and fellow believers.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR ME
This summer I am headed to Inspiration Hills to be the summer day camp coordinator through August. Eventually, I would love to move overseas into a less developed, lower income country. My dream is to advocate for orphan prevention by keeping families together.
WHAT I WOULD TELL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
In the busyness and chaos of experiencing so many new moments and meeting so many new faces, take time for yourself. If you forget to work on discovering who you are, it becomes all too easy to get swept up in becoming who your others may perceive you to be.
HOW DORDT HELPED ME DO MORE
Dordt allows you to get involved in so many different activities and areas, so that you are able to do the things you are passionate about while also being able to try new things. Each and every one of these experiences has helped to equip me with the tools needed to further God's kingdom.
