A CONCEPT THAT BLEW MY MIND
Your vocation is where your skills, talents, and abilities fulfill a need in the world. After working for almost three years, I have discovered that that concept is constantly true when you work hard and honor the Lord. Your responsibilities continue to increase and your vocation spreads to all aspects of life.
COOL THINGS I DID AT DORDT
I played football for all four years, which really pushed me physically and mentally. It helped me gain perseverance in trials and appreciate all of the benefits. I had great roommates and friends, who I spent a lot of time just hanging out with, as well as having valuable conversations.
OBSTACLES I'VE OVERCOME
The simple weekly tasks of juggling homework, tests, football, and a social life. Being disciplined in all of that, while keeping my head on straight, was an obstacle in itself. My first year was tough staying afloat with my grades and football. But by the time junior and senior year rolled around, with Christ and great friends by my side, I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
WHO I WAS WHEN I CAME TO DORDT
I was nervous and worried about getting good grades, succeeding in football, and making those lifelong friends that everyone says you will make in college. I grew up in the same church and school from pre-K through high school, and I always had good friends through all of it. Coming to Dordt, with all of that about to change, was a big shock.
HOW DORDT IMPACTED ME
Dordt gave me a stronger, more confident mindset for how to live as a man of God. The faculty, professors, coaches, and students were all great examples for me. I matured as a Christian, friend, player, and student. Now I have the opportunity to be a leader and to pass that mindset down to the people around me.
WHERE I AM NOW
The career I am in now fell into my lap when I finished college, which was a huge blessing. I work for a construction company that assists in building large dairy farms all over the country. This was and still is a great fit for me, since I grew up on a dairy farm and have a degree in construction.
WHAT I WOULD TELL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
The relationships and connections you make at Dordt College are invaluable. Nowadays, simply sending resumes makes it very difficult to land a job, let alone a career. The phrase "It's all about who you know" is a reality in being successful at work, business, family, and shining the light of Christ everywhere.
HOW DORDT HELPED ME DO MORE
The education and knowledge I gained was valuable: both in particular subjects and in learning how to learn. But most importantly, Christ was integrated in all aspects of the classroom, the football field, and the entire campus. Dordt laid a foundation for me to take on life in a corrupted, sinful world, and to be a game changer. It helped me clearly understand what it looks like to live a life that is honoring to God in all aspects. I know that when I give everything to God and trust him with my entire life, everything else will fall into place. Even though it’s not always easy and I often fail, owning that truth gives me peace, which enables me to Do More.
