Dordt def. Lawrence Tech 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender softball team won its fifth game in a row and finished its week without a loss in taking a 3-1 decision over Lawrence Tech on Friday afternoon in Kissimmee, Florida.
Dordt scored two in the fourth inning as Jadyn Faber’s single plated Ivy Terpstra and Emma Groen but Dordt missed out on a bigger inning as they left the bases loaded. Tech answered with a run on a single with one out in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t get the runner moved on and trailed 2-1.
The Defenders got a run in the home half of the sixth when Jessica Oules singled to lead off the inning and Kenzie Cunard moved her up with a sacrifice bunt. Oules then went to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on Chandler Schemper’s sacrifice fly.
Up 3-1 the Defenders had to survive two more Tech at-bats. In the sixth a single and a walk put the pressure on but Abby Kraemer got a pop-out, strikeout and ground out to get out of the jam and the seventh inning went without incident.
Dordt outhit Lawrence Tech 8-5 and sidestepped two errors.
Emma Groen was 3-4 with three singles and a run scored, two singles and a double.
Kenzie Cunard, Karli Olsen, Chandler Schemper, Jadyn Faber and Jessica Oules all had a single.
Dordt used a committee to pitch with Jadyn Faber starting and going three frames with two strikeouts and one hit allowed. Taylor Knaack earned the win with a two inning performance and allowed three hits. Abby Kraemer got the win with two innings pitched and struck out four with a hit allowed.
Dordt is now 9-7-1 this season and will next play on March 23 at home.
