Dordt def. Judson 9-1

The Dordt Defender softball team was a 9-1 winner over Judson (Illinois) on Monday afternoon, March 7 in a game played in Florida.  The Defenders made it a sweep of their two games with the five-inning victory.

Dordt got four on the board in the third inning with Karli Olsen starting the scoring with a one-out, solo homerun. After Chandler Schemper reached on an error Brooklyn Van Oort knocked a homerun and Emma Groen followed with a solo shot to end the scoring in the frame.

Groen figured in the scoring in the fourth inning when she singled in Schemper who reached initially with a walk.

The Defenders added four runs on two hits in the fifth inning with Olsen singling in a run and then Schemper was hit by a pitch with the bases full and Van Oort walked with the bases loaded.  Groen knocked in one more run with a sacrifice fly for a 9-0 lead.

Judson broke up the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fifth and the game ended by the eight-run difference rule.

Van Oort and Groen both knocked in three runs with Groen accounting for two of Dordt’s nine hits with a single and homerun.

Olsen had two runs batted in with a single and homerun.

Five other Defenders had base hits as Dordt outhit Judson 9-1.

Taylor Knaack earned the pitching win while scattering two hits and five bases on balls.

It's always tough after a two hour break.  We talked about staying focused for 21 outs.  Taylor Knaack was able to pitch around some threats early.  Things started to click for our hitters and you just hope that you keep practicing and working and good things will happen and I think some of our hitters felt like things were beginning to work for them.

Dordt will play Judson and Lourdes (Ohio) on Tuesday as their 12-game week continues.
