Northwestern def. Dordt 5-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt baseball team lost a 5-3 decision at Northwestern on Thursday night in game two of their doubleheader.
Northwestern scored a run in the bottom of the second and added two more in the third before Dordt was able to narrow the gap.
Logan Cline got Dordt within a run as he homered with Kaden Davis on base to trim the lead to 3-2. Northwestern answered with a run in the home half of the fifth inning.
The Defenders pieced together another run with Nolan Christianson scoring on a throwing error on Anthony Klinzing’s stolen base attempt. The next two outs were recorded without incident and Klinzing was stranded at third.
Leading 4-3, Northwestern scored again in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-3 lead. Dordt threatened in the seventh with Logan Cline doubling with two outs and Brock Spade singled to put runners on the corners before a groundout ended the uprising.
Dordt was outhit 7-5.
Cline had a homerun and double with two runs batted in. It was his 19th double of the season and ninth homerun.
Spade, Dylan Stanley and Klinzing accounted for Dordt’s other hits.
Logan Horne went the distance and allowed five runs on seven hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.
Dordt and Northwestern are scheduled to play again on Friday at 2:00 to conclude the regular season.
