Northwestern def. Dordt 6-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt baseball team lost a 6-5 decision at Northwestern on Friday afternoon in game one of their season ending doubleheader.
Dordt scored two in the second inning when Kaden Davis doubled in Anthony Klinzing and Dylan Stanley for what turned out to be a short lived 2-0 lead. Northwestern answered with four runs on three hits and two errors in the home half of the frame.
Dordt threatened in the top of the third and got the bases loaded by a pair of strikeouts ended the threat and the score remained 4-2 until Dordt came back with three in the fifth inning.
In the fifth Dordt got a single by Klinzing to score Chase Edwards. Edwards had reached to start the inning with a double. After a flyout for the second out of the inning Logan De Vries slugged his third homerun of the season for a 5-4 lead.
Northwestern managed to tie it in the sixth and eventually won the game with a run scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. Dordt was retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Northwestern outhit Dordt 8-7.
Three of Dordt’s hits were doubles by Chase Edwards, Anthony Klinzing and Kade Davis.
De Vries had two runs batted in with his homerun and Davis also had two runs batted in.
Nick Yeager went five and a third innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Dylan Brown absorbed the loss in relief and as charged with one run on a hit and he faced five batters.
