Midland def. Dordt 9-8

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Midland Warriors came back from an 8-3 deficit to defeat Dordt in an eight-inning contest, 9-8 on Friday afternoon.

The Defenders captured the momentum early, using a three-run inning in their half of the 1st. Luke November singled down the right field line to bring home Nolan Christianson, who stole a base earlier in the inning. Dylan Stanley followed up with a two-out home run, his first hit to leave the yard this season, to give Dordt a 3-0 lead.

Midland matched Dordt's scoring output in the bottom of the 1st, scoring on an error, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single.

In the top of the 3rd with runners on first and second, Stanley helped the Defenders regain the lead, hitting a triple to deep right center that allowed November and Christianson to cross the plate. In the next at-bat, Anthony Rodriguez-Klinzing hit a single up the middle that allowed Stanley to score for Dordt's third run of the inning.

The Defenders kept their foot on the pedal in the 4th, as Luke November hit a double with runners on the corners, bringing Dordt's lead to 8-3.

The Warriors began their rally with a triple to begin the bottom of the 4th, allowing one run to score. They followed by scoring in the next at-bat and adding a two-out RBI single.

After Midland tied the game at 8-8 in the 5th inning, neither team was able to score again until the 8th, when Midland's Chase Reynolds hit a leadoff single and later came around to score on an RBI single from Connor Petersen, which proved to be the walk-off winner.
