The Dordt University men's cross country team's historic season came to close with an eighth place finish at today's NAIA National Championship in Vancouver, Wash. 

The Defenders made history on the biggest stage as they turned in a program-best eighth place finish at today's championship. They totaled 245 points and were just six points behind sixth place Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). This was the second top 10 finish for the Defender men's program (2018 -10th place). 

Eric Steiger was the top finisher for the Defenders, completing the 8K course in 34th place with a time of 25:39. Steiger earned All-American honors (placing in the top 40), the fourth Dordt men's runner to receive the national honor and first since Caleb Drake (2016). 

Davis Tebben overcame losing a shoe in the first 1,000m to place 49th overall with a time of 26:07. This was the best finish for Tebben in his four time competing at nationals. 

Joe Anderson and Nic Veldhorst completed the 8K course within seconds of each other, crossing the finish line in 57th and 59th place, respectively. Anderson posted a time of 26:14 and Veldhorst closed out his outstanding Defender career with a time of 26:17.

Jacob Vander Plaats, competing in his fifth national championship, crossed the finish line in 71st place with a time of 26:27. Ethan Summerhays (137th - 27:03) and Trey Engen (189th - 27:30) round out the Defender runners.

Milligan (Tenn.) won the championship with 115 points, followed by Saint Mary (Kan.) with 175. The Oklahoma City duo of Zouhair Talbi (1st - 24:43) and Shimales Abebe (2nd - 24:56) were the top individuals.
