Mount Marty Invite
Dordt University turned in a perfect score in winning the team championship at today's Mount Marty Invite held at the Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, S.D.
Dordt runners claimed the top seven spots individually, eight of the top 10 and 12 of the top 20. The Defenders totaled 15 points and cruised to the team title by 60 points over second place Morningside.
Eric Steiger won the individual championship with a season-best 8K time of 25:10. Today was Steiger's third top 10 finish of the season.
Davis Tebben followed close behind and finished second with a time of 25:15. Jacob Vander Plaats was third (25:23), followed by Joe Anderson (25:37) and Thaniel Schroeder (25:49) who both ran personal best times.
Nic Veldhorst and Trey Engen were the sixth and seventh runners to cross the finish line with times of 25:51 and 25:52. Engen's time was also a personal best. Peter Shippy also placed in the top 10, finishing ninth (26:03).
"The men raced very well today, taking each of the top seven individual spots," stated Head Coach Nate Wolf. "We have continually built depth each meet this season and that continued today with our top nine men crossing the line within 60 seconds of each other. This week, Joe Anderson and Thaniel Schroeder broke 26:00 for the first time in their careers to fill the fourth and fifth spots on the team and keep the top five spread under 40 seconds. We are excited to get a few more weeks of quality training in as we head into the championship portion of the season."
