Non-conference Match

The Dordt University women's cross country team culminated their outstanding 2021 season with an eighth place finish at the NAIA National Championship this afternoon in Vancouver, Wash. Today's 5K race was held at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

Ranked 14th nearly all season, the Defenders bettered that ranking by six spots, placing eighth out of 36 teams with a score of 343 points. This marks the second consecutive season the Defenders finished eighth and is their sixth top 10 finish in program history.

Dordt sophomore Jessica Kampman led the way with a 20th place finish and earned All-American honors (placing in the top 40) for the second consecutive year. Kampman posted a 5K time of 18:46 and is the second, two-time All-American in program history, joining Jen Kempers (2007-08). Kampman placed 31st at last year's championship run in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and turned in her sixth top 25 finish of the season.

Anika Homan was the next Dordt runner to come across the finish line, placing 78th with a time of 19:29. Homan has finished among the top 100 runners at the NAIA Championship back-to-back years.

The next three Defenders to finish, Eden Winslow, Taylor Anema and Margaret Myskowski, completed the course within 11 seconds of each other. Winslow, participating in her third and final NAIA Championship, finished 101st (19:38), followed by Anema (119th - 19:44) and Myskowski (127th - 19:49). Anema bettered her finish from the 2020 season by 65 places and over one minute of time.

Brenna Tolkamp (160th - 20:03) and Lucy Borkowski (204th - 20:28) were the Defenders sixth and seventh runners. Tolkamp cut nearly a minute off her time and bettered her placing by 122 spots from the 2019 championship held on the same course.
