The Dordt University women's cross country team finished ninth among 27 teams at the Augustan Twilight meet held tonight at the Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Competing against several NCAA D-I and D-II teams, the Defenders were second among the NAIA teams with 264 points, just behind GPAC rival Concordia. The University of South Dakota claimed the team title with 70 points, edging both South Dakota State and Augustana (83pts).
Jessica Kampman crossed the finish line in 10th place overall and was the top placer among NAIA runners. The junior completed the 5K course in a time of 18:42.
Taylor Anema, the 2020 conference champion, was the second Defender runner to finish (73rd) with a time of 19:54. Lucy Borkowski was close behind in 85th place (20:05). A pack of five Dordt runners followed, led by Eden Winslow (94th - 20:13), Brenna Tolkamp (96th - 20:15), Margaret Myskowski (98th - 20:17), Alexa Veldhuisen (102nd - 20:18) and Bethany Ten Haken (103rd - 20:19).
- Said Head Coach Nate Wolf, "The women's team started their season with a strong race, finishing 9th out of 27 teams. Jessica led the women's team with a 10th place overall individual finish out of 339 runners. The rest of the pack moved incredibly well over the last half of the race after a slow start that saw many of the runners coming to stand still on the first few turns. This was a great way to start our year off and great experience racing in a large field."
