Dordt def. Eastern Oregon 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25, 16-14)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender women’s volleyball team had to battle extra time to win its first match of a classic hosted by The College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho on Friday.
Dordt was victorious in set one with a 25-23 win in a set that featured nine ties. Eastern Oregon flipped the script in set two with a 25-22 win. Eastern Oregon was up at one point 23-14 and then held on as Dordt trimmed it to 24-22.
The Defenders pulled away from an 18-16 lead in set three to get up 20-16 and kept the margin at least three on the way to a 25-21 win. Set four shaped up to be very competitive with the score at 11-10 Eastern Oregon after a Corrina Timmermans kill. Eastern then went on a 9-0 run to get up 20-10 and won 25-15.
The Defenders regrouped and led 13-9 in set five after a Brenna Krommendyk kill. Eastern Oregon scored the next four points to tie it before Krommendyk ended the run. Dordt never relinquished the lead with Franken getting a kill and an Eastern Oregon attack error ended it 16-14.
Dordt hit .132 with Timmermans and Krommendyk recording 16 kills each and Franken had 13.
Megan Raszle and Campbell Marshall had 35 and 18 assists each and Erica Bousema got to 36 digs and Mia Gamet had 25.
Dordt scored 13 points on blocks with Franken and Krommendyk recording seven and six blocks respectively.

This match had many exciting rallies and showcased two high quality teams that are still figuring themselves out in this early preseason. Our blocking was strong and we demonstrated great composure in the final moments of the match.
