Doane held as much as a 13-point lead in a first half where they shot 64%. Dordt trimmed the lead down to 10 (40-30) by halftime and used a 14-2 run to take a 56-54 lead after a Coppock three-pointer (56-54) with 12 minutes to go.

Gardiner led Doane with 28 points and was complimented by Laravie's 23 points. Alec Oberhauser added a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Doane held a 33-22 advantage on the boards. They improve to 4-6 in the GPAC, 11-9 overall.

“Doane played a good game today.  This is the first time many of our players are playing Doane and they are trying to get a feel for what Anthony Laravie is like and getting a feel for some of the other guys that are out here. You can watch all the tape you want but you have to get a feel for it. Once we get a feel for it  we get a little bit better on the defensive end. Maybe we have to do something differently from a coaching standpoint in order to get the ready to go early in the game," said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
