HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt split the weekend series on Saturday with an overtime win at Nebraska, their 11th win of the 2021-22 season.
The Defenders took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Kyle Espenson and Jonah Weems in the first 10 minutes of play. Nebraska then answered before the first intermission with two goals of their own to make the score 2-2 after one.
The second period saw Dordt score two unanswered goals by Dawson Kaemingh and Noah Wilmes to extend the lead to 4-2 before the Huskers responded with goals at the seven- and four-minute mark. Jonah Weems added his second goal of the game on a powerplay opportunity with 1:39 in the period to give Dordt a 5-4 lead at the break.
Nebraska continued the high scoring output for the game in the third, netting three goals in less than three minutes to take a two-goal lead. Less than a minute after the Nebraska run, Dawson Kaemingh scored to cut Dordt's deficit to a goal. With two minutes remaining in regulation, Noah Wilmes tied the game to send it to overtime.
Kyle Espenson broke the tie in the extra period on the assist by Drew Vreugdenhil, sending Dordt home with an 8-7 win.
