Iowa State def. Dordt 3-2

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dordt and Iowa State battled on the ice for the first time this season, as the Cyclones took the early series lead with a 3-2 win on Friday night.

Iowa State scored the first goal of the game on an unassisted goal by DJ Girardi. The Defenders then tied it up three minutes later on a Kyle Espenson goal from in front of the dasher boards on the assist from Collin Price. The Cyclones were able to score again before the end of the period on a Donnie Guskey goal.

The Defenders were the only team to score in the second period, as Noah Wilmes found the net on Dawson Kaemingh's assist.

In the third period, both offenses picked up the pace, leading to a series of scoring chances in their attacking zones. Hunter Schultz scored the game-winning goal with 12 minutes remaining, and the Defenders were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
