Dordt def. Nebraska-Omaha 7-6
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt faced Nebraska-Omaha in the opening game of the season, winning a thrilling contest 7-6 in overtime.
The Mavericks took an early 1-0 lead on Ben Prellwitz's goal, but later in the period, Kyle Espenson opened the scoring for the Defenders, finding the back of the net to tie the game.
Dordt added another goal later on, as it was Eli Visscher's first goal of the year to create a 2-1 Defender advantage after the opening period.
The second period saw plenty of offense, as the Defenders went up 4-2 following Omaha's tying goal. After scoring once more at the seven-minute mark, Logan Mercier completed a hat trick to tie the game 4-4 going into the final period.
Dordt went up late in the game 6-5 after Alex Espenson's goal, but the Mavericks tied it once again with three minutes remaining. Neither team was able to break the tie, sending the game to overtime.
In the 3-on-3 overtime period, Dawson Kaemingh scored the game-winning goal, helping Dordt start 1-0 on the early year.

Eli Visscher, Noah Wilmes, Rylan Brue, and Dawson Kaemingh each scored one goal
