HOW IT HAPPENED

The Defender women's volleyball team played against Viterbo in game two of Friday's doubleheader, a game that saw the V-Hawks defeat the Defenders in three sets.

The first set opened well for Dordt, who started with a 3-0 lead in part from a kill for Corrina Timmermans along with a block for Timmermans and Brenna Krommendyk. Viterbo then went out to a 12-6 lead, forcing a timeout from Dordt. The V-Hawks continued to build their lead throughout the set, and a late Defender rally was put to an end to give Viterbo a 25-16 set one win.

The home team kept momentum on their side, opening with a 7-4 lead in set two. Dordt scored on an attack error out of the timeout, but Viterbo scored five of the next six points, setting up a 25-15 win in the second set.

The third set opened with both teams trading points, and with the score knotted at 10 each, Viterbo went on a 10-0 run, helping close the match in three sets.

COACH CHAD HANSON SAID

"We struggled to get an offensive rhythm going against a team that was very comfortable on offense and defense. Though this was our first match loss of the year, we realize that this doesn't define our season. Instead, we remain committed to growing with each other every day. This is a fun team to coach even though this was definitely not a fun match outcome."
