The Dordt University women's soccer team lost to Briar Cliff 3-2 in the Defenders GPAC opener played this afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Defenders four-match win streak comes to and end as they fall to 5-2 overall. Briar Cliff, the defending GPAC regular season champion, improves to 2-0 (GPAC), 4-1 overall. 

Briar Cliff scored the lone goal in the opening frame in a first half dominated by defense. Chargers forward Bailee Hackley one-timed a Taylor Alkire cross into the back of the net during the 26th minute. 

Dordt tied the match when Avril Baccam was fouled inside the penalty area and converted the ensuing penalty kick during the 66th minute. Baccam has now scored nine goals this season, tied for second most in the NAIA.

Just over five minutes later, Briar Cliff forward Flor Suarez scored off an assist from Hackley for a 2-1 lead. The Chargers scored again during the 83rd minute on a goal by Alkire.

Dordt converted on a set play during the 87th minute when Claire Jansen drove the ball past BCU goalkeeper Darrien Sclafani for the game's final goal. The Defenders were unable to produce any scoring chances during the final minutes.

Jenna Wright made five saves over the full 90 minutes in goal for the Defenders.
