Dordt def. Midland 3-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders picked up their first conference win of the season in part from a tiebreaking goal in the final minute. Dordt was opportunistic on their scoring attempts, netting three goals on five shots.
Dordt was first on the scoreboard as Phil Appelt scored his fourth goal of the season after eight minutes of play. Nolan Regan was on the assist. It was the lone goal of the half for either team, as the Defenders took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
Midland held possession on their half of the field early in the second and tied the game with 20 minutes left in the match. Santiago Viel de la Maza was the goal scorer on the play. Moments later, Thomas Moulder gave Midland a 2-1 lead.
With less than 15 minutes to go, the ball found its way near the penalty box and was pushed into the net as Midland attempted to clear the ball, helping the Defenders tie the game at 2.
CJ Schulz then scored his third goal of the year on a crowded play near the net, settling the game at a 3-2 final in favor of Dordt.
