C.J. Schulz netted the game winner during the final minutes to lift the Dordt University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Bethany Lutheran in a match played this afternoon at the Defenders Soccer Complex.

Tied 1-1, Schulz drove home a ball from around the penalty mark that went past Bethany Lutheran goalkeeper Nick Lundberg.

Dordt picked up its first win of the season and they improve to 1-5-2 this season with all GPAC matches remaining on the schedule. Bethany Lutheran lost for the third time, falling to 1-3 on the season.

Phil Appelt broke a scoreless game with a goal during the 61st minute. Less than minute later, Bethany Lutheran took advantage of a Defenders miss-play when Max Busch netted the tying goal from 18-yards out. 

Dordt held a 10-7 shots on goal advantage, led by Blake Hansen with five. Brandon Hansen made six saves for Head Coach Ryan Gresse's squad.

The Defenders return to conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 22 when they play Concordia in Seward, Neb.
