Blake Hansen scored three goals and assisted on another in the Defenders 6-4 loss to Clarke University in a non-conference match played tonight in Sioux Center.
Dordt is now 0-3-1 for the 2021 season; Clarke moves to 4-2.
Trailing 4-0 at halftime, the Defenders netted all four goals during the final 45 minutes, matching their largest scoring output since the first match of the 2019 season.
Hansen needed just 18 seconds into the second half to score his first goal, driving one past Clarke goalkeeper Jan Paule.
Six minutes later, Clarke responded with a goal from Lorran De Almeida, his second of the match, to give the Pride a seemingly comfortable 5-1 lead.
Dordt stormed back, netting three goals in the span of 80 seconds to bring the lead down to one. Phil Appelt found the back of the net from an assist by Hansen during the 61st minute. Hansen then scored consecutive goals just 25 seconds apart, completing his first career hat trick.
Following a 18-minute scoreless stretch, Clarke added an insurance goal during the 81st minute scored by Luke Persenico.
Mitchell Dryden made four saves for the Defenders, who were outshot by a narrow 10-9 margin.
