Dordt University played Ottawa to a 1-1 double overtime draw in the opening game of the 2021 season this evening in Ottawa, Kan.
Down 1-0 at the half, Defenders striker Blake Hansen blasted home the equalizer just shy of the 56th minute. Hansen, Dordt's leading scorer last year, totaled four of his team's seven shots on-goal.
Nolan Regan, Nathan Wanninger and Phil Appelt all registered one shot on-goal.
"Overall, not a bad performance for our opening match, said Dordt University Head Coach Ryan Gresse. "We need to improve in transition defensively. We had opportunities to be in a better position if we were more clinical in the first half. Our mentality grew throughout the match though and we look forward to continue improving from here."
Dordt's goalkeeper, Brandon Hansen, stopped 10 shots in 110 minutes of action, holding Ottawa scoreless for the entirety of the second half and overtime periods. Hansen notched his seventh match with 10+ saves during his career.
Jonathan Rawayo scored Ottawa's lone goal during the eighth minute of play in the first half.
