- Dordt defeats Presentation 5-0.
How It Happened
Avril Baccam scored a pair of goals and Jenna Wright recorded her fourth career shutout in leading Dordt to a 5-0 win against Presentation (S.D.).
The Defenders earned their second consecutive win and have won four of their last five matches. They moved into a tie for eighth place with Morningside at 4-4-1 in the conference, 9-5-1 overall.
Dordt scored early and often, netting its first goal just 77 seconds into the match on an own goal from a corner kick hit by Sarah Miller.
The score remained 1-0 Defenders until Baccam netted the first of her two goals when she drove the ball from 20-yards out and into the upper corner of the net during the 35th minute. The freshman scored again off a set piece from outside the penalty area at the 42nd minute to put Dordt in front 3-0.
Baccam, now with 17 goals scored, moved into a tie for fourth place for goals scored in a season within the Defenders program (tied Kate DuMez -2009).
Dordt stayed in front 3-0 until the 74th minute when Keely Kolbrek one-timed a cross hit by Miller to score her first career goal. Clarissa Quintanilla added a goal off a breakaway at the 78th minute mark.
Wright made five saves to earn her ninth win of the season.
"It’s great to see the women, in back-to-back games, with quick starts," said Head Coach Alex Durbin. "Scoring that go ahead goal is crucial, and when that goal comes within the first five minutes, it can take the winds out of the sails of the opponents. It is always good to see Avril on the score sheet. She has been pivotal for our side, and she has been a key part of our success. It is also exciting to see two other underclassman on the score sheet between Clarissa and Keely."
The Defenders will travel to Jamestown, N.D. for a conference match-up against the Jimmies on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
