  • Dordt improves to 4-1
  • Nebraska Wesleyan drops to 2-2

Dordt University scored three first half goals en route to a convincing 4-0 win against Nebraska Wesleyan in a match played tonight at Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.

The Defenders extend their win streak to three and improve to 4-1 on the season while also earning their first road victory against Nebraska Wesleyan in program history (now 1-10 all-time in Lincoln).

Freshman Avril Baccam netted two more goals for the Defenders, pushing her season total to seven, currently the third most in the NAIA. Hannah Glynn and Sydney Hooyer added goals and Claire Jansen totaled the lone assist.

Jenna Wright, the current GPAC Defensive Player of the Week, notched her second consecutive shutout and improved to 4-0 as the Defenders goalkeeper. Wright stopped three NWU shots.

Baccam put the Defenders in front with a goal scored just shy of eight minutes into the contest off an assist from Jansen. Glynn extended the Dordt lead a mere three minutes later when she found the back of the net with 10:20 gone by in the first half. Sydney Hooyer pushed the Defenders lead to 3-0 when she chipped NWU keeper Leslie Borges during the 27th minute.

Dordt's final goal came during the 83rd minute when Baccam received the ball near midfield, blew by a defender and touched it far post for a four-goal lead.

  • Said Head Coach Alex Durbin, "Overall, I'm very pleased with how we played tonight. We played a strong first 20 minutes and were able to find the back of the net quickly. It's good to see young players come up big on the score sheet, including Avril (2 goals), Sydney (1 goal) and Jenna (shutout). I'm also glad that Hannah was able to score off a free kick in the first half. Hopefully we can keep our win streak going this weekend as we head into GPAC play next week."
