Valley City State def. Dordt 6-5
Dordt was the victim of a late comeback in the second game of the day for the Defenders and lost a 6-5 decision to Valley City State in non-conference softball play in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Dordt scored three runs on four hits in the fourth inning with Rachel Evavold doubling in a run and Chandler Schemper had a sacrifice fly. Brooklyn Van Oort knocked in a run with a single to complete the frame’s scoring.
Dordt added two more in the fifth Evavold dealing the blow with a double that plated two.
Dordt couldn’t handle the prosperity with five runs allowed in the sixth inning on four hits and a pair of errors and the Vikings took the lead with a run in the seventh inning.
Dordt was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Dordt had an 8-6 hits advantage.
Evavold had a pair of doubles and three runs batted in.
Jessica Oules had two singles and two runs scored. Karli Olsen had Dordt’s other extra base hit—a double.
Abby Kraemer took the loss after striking out 13 and walking one with six hits allowed—two of her runs allowed were unearned.
Dordt is now 2-2
The Defenders will face Morningside at noon on Saturday and will meet Dakota Wesleyan at 4:00.
