Northwestern def. Dordt 1-0
How It Happened
In a defensive battle from start to finish, the Defenders lost a 2OT match 1-0 in a non-conference game with Northwestern.
Dordt was aggressive on the attack at the opening whistle, as 3 of their 4 first half shots were attempted in the first 20 minutes. As the half progressed, Dordt maintained their defensive pressure, keeping the score at 0-0 into halftime.
Both teams were unable to generate their offenses throughout the second half as full time approached without a goal scored. Following two Dordt corner kicks, Northwestern took a transition opportunity to find the back of the net. Jake Foscalina scored the game-winning goal with 2:39 remaining in the second overtime period.
Dordt held a 6-5 corner kick advantage.
Brandon Hansen finished with six saves in the contest.
Northwestern attempted 18 shots compared to Dordt's 7 overall.
Coach Gresse Said
"Tough results to swallow, but I'm really proud of the way the guys played and responded. They were together as a unit, competed for the entire match, and left everything on the field. We can hold our heads high going into conference play next week."
Dordt will play at home against Briar Cliff in Open Space Park Stadium. The Defenders open conference play against the Chargers on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:15 pm.
