Northwestern def. Dordt 4-2
Dordt lost a 4-2 decision in the first game of a doubleheader with Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa on Tuesday afternoon.
The Defenders battled back from a 3-0 deficit to within 3-2 but the hosts got an insurance run in the sixth and held on to win the game which was controlled by the pitchers.
Dordt left two on base in the first inning while Northwestern got two across in the bottom of the inning, doing the damage with two out and no one on base. A homerun after a walk put the Raiders in control. Northwestern added a run in the third inning for a 3-0 lead that held until the top of the sixth inning.
Dordt started the rally with a walk to lead off the inning and Hailey Heeringa eventually singled her in from third base. Erin Bredemus singled in Hannah Sikkema for a 3-2 deficit but Dordt left runners on first and third when the inning ended.
Northwestern answered with a run on three hits in the sixth inning and Dordt had the tying run at the plate in the seventh but a pair of ground outs ended the game.
Abby Kraemer struck out seven with four walks and six hits allowed to take the loss.
Hailey Heeringa had two singles and a run batted in and four other Defenders all had singles—Kenzie Cunard, Hannah Sikkema, Erin Bredemus and Ella Koster.
