Morningside def. Dordt 14-11
Dordt and Morningside battled in game two of Friday evening's doubleheader, as both teams continued GPAC play.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, but Dordt earned half of those runs back in the bottom part of the inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Austin Pullar hit a leadoff double, and John Emerson brought him in for Dordt's first run of the game. Nick Hamilton's sacrifice fly to left scored Emerson, and Logan Cline scored on Connor Hommes' double.
After Luke Turner threw a 1-2-3 top of the 2nd, the Defenders came within one run after Austin Pullar and Emerson scored on Chase Edwards' single.
Dordt took a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning, as the Defenders batted through the order to spend most of the inning with runners on all three bases.
With a three-run Dordt lead, Morningside took back the lead in the top of the 6th, drawing a series of walks and utilizing timely hitting to bring in four runs on two hits.
The Defenders went in front once again in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI double for Emerson and an RBI single by Edwards.
Following a short delay in the top of the 7th, Morningside used a sacrifice bunt to get their runner to third, who later scored to tie the game.
The Mustangs held Dordt scoreless in the bottom half of the 7th and scored three runs in extra innings to earn a 14-11 win over the Defenders.
John Emerson had 3 RBI on 2-5 hitting
Chase Edwards had 3 RBI on 3-4 hitting
Connor Hommes went 3-3 with 2 RBI
Dordt will face the Jamestown Jimmies in a home doubleheader on Saturday, April 3 at 12:00 and 2:00 pm
