Doane def. Dordt 16-13.
Dordt and Doane took the field for game two of the doubleheader, and the Tigers won in a high-scoring contest that saw both teams score in double-digits.
Following the first out of the game, Doane had the bases loaded to set the tone for a three-run top of the 1st. The Tigers left three runners on base and took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the inning. In Dordt's half of the inning, Chase Edwards hit a single deep to center field, and Logan Cline came around from first to score and tie the game.
The Defenders took the lead in the 2nd inning, as Connor Hommes hit a home run and gave Dordt a 2-1 lead.
Following an efficient inning on the mound by Isaac Vander Hart, Dordt added another five runs in the bottom of the 3rd. John Emerson and Logan Cline doubled on back-to-back plate appearances and Cam Pfafman hit a three-run home run that scored Nick Hamilton and Connor Hommes, giving the Defenders a 7-1 lead.
Doane then answered with 8 runs of their own on a six-hit inning, which included a home run for Jack Tillman.
Down 16-10 going into the 9th inning, Dordt attempted to bring themselves close through a series of base hits. The Defenders opened the inning with three hits in a row by Logan Cline, Chase Edwards, and Nick Hamilton. With the bases loaded, Cam Pfafman recorded an RBI, and Lucas Nelson later hit a ground ball that turned into two runs for Dordt. The Defenders' rally attempt came short, however, and Doane picked up the conference win, 16-13.
Cam Pfafman went 2-4 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored
Nick Hamilton was 2-3 with 3 RBI
Chase Edwards went 3-5 with 1 RBI
Logan Cline scored 4 runs and went 3-5 at the plate
Dordt will play at home on Tuesday, March 23 at 5:00 and 7:00 pm
