THE MEET

The Dordt Defender men’s golf team is in fifth place after day one of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship held at Indian Creek in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

The Defenders shot a first-day total of 315 and stand six shots behind Midland and eight behind Northwestern. In the tightly contested field the Defenders are four shots clear of Dakota Wesleyan and Jamestown and seven in front of eighth place Briar Cliff.

Morningside is the team leader with a 295.

Blake Harmsen shot a Dordt best 76 and is tied for ninth after 18 holes and Ryan Feauto’s 77 has him tied for 12th.

Doane’s Conor Schubring leads the field with a two-under 70.

11 teams and 54 golfers started play on Monday. Day two of the event is Tuesday, September 29 also at Indian Hills.  The third and fourth rounds of the GPAC Championship are scheduled for April 2021.
