Dordt’s men had three competitors on day one of the heptathlon at Concordia’s Early Bird in Seward, Nebraska on December 4.
Grant Brouwer made a late move to move to third place in the field, moving from fifth to third with his performance in the high jump.
Brouwer started the day with a 7.5 time in the 60 meters and followed that with a 6.29 meter long jump. He earned 489 points with a heave of 10.05 meters in the shot put and finished with a 2.07 meter high jump to bring his four event total to 2,720 points.
Josh De Jong and Devin Bos are eighth and ninth respectively. De Jong has 2,361 points after running 7.5 in the 60 meters; leaping 5.84 meters in the long jump; throwing the shot put 9.28 meters and claring 1.83 meters in the high jump. Bos has 2,168 points after performances of 7.67 in the 60 meters; 5.66 meters in the long jump; 9.28 meters in the shot put and 1.71 meters in the long jump.
Brouwer is 54 points out of first place and 31 shy of second place with the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters to be held on Saturday.
