Missouri Baptist def. Dordt 6-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men’s soccer team lost a 6-2 decision to Missouri Baptist on Monday afternoon in Sioux Center after leading 1-0 at halftime.
Dordt was able to get on the board with a goal in the 26th minute with Quinton Olson scoring the first goal of the Defender season. Meanwhile, the Dordt defense was able to thwart several Spartan attempts by weathering a 10 shots on goal first half by the visitors.
Missouri Baptist struck for goals in the 53rd, 60th and 61st minutes before Blake Hansen scored off an assist by Patrick Munsey to get it back to within 3-2.
The Spartans responded with three more from the 67th to the 85th minutes for the final of 6-2.
Dordt’s Mitch Dryden faced 22 shots in goal.
THE NUMBERS
Missouri Baptist had a 23-8 shots on goal advantage and a 32-12 overall shots edge.
Missouri Baptist controlled play with 11 corner kicks to five for the Defenders.
COACH GRESSE SAID
"We played an encouraging first half. We had weaknesses exposed in the second half that will help us learn and improve as a team for Saturday. Overall, there were still a number of positives out of today’s game. The team is eager to get back to work tomorrow.”
