Dordt def. Hastings 72-53


The Dordt Defenders never trailed in a road contest with Hastings on Saturday, earning a convincing win to remain in the top four of the GPAC standings. Dordt opened the scoring with a 4-0 lead off of a couple of baskets from Ashtyn Veerbeek and Karly Gustafson. The defensive pressure from both teams kept the scoring output low throughout the first quarter until Mya Chmielewski's three and McKenna Klecker's four-point play extended Dordt's lead to nine through eight and a half minutes of play. Hastings scored the next five points to cut the Dordt lead to four after the fourth quarter.

The Defenders increased the lead throughout the second after Erika Feenstra scored six unanswered points to bring the score to 28-18 with 3:31 left in the first half. Dordt led by as much as 13 in the quarter before holding a 35-24 halftime lead.

Hastings managed to keep the game in reach through the early part of the third quarter, as Allison Bauer made a three to bring Dordt's lead to just four points. Dordt then went on a 11-0 run, completed by a three on the right wing from Macey Nielson off of Karly Gustafson's assist.

Dordt's largest lead of the game came in the fourth quarter as Karly Gustafson made a shot in the paint to give the Defenders a 26-point lead. Eleven Defenders scored in the game to give Dordt their 11th win of the season.

The Defenders shot 47.4% and Hastings shot 31.7%

Allison Bauer was the leading scorer for Hastings with 20 points


"I'm so excited for our team today. We had a really focused effort yesterday in practice to get ready for today. Everybody that came into the game contributed positively to what we needed today. To stay focused and come in here and beat a good team; I couldn't be happier. We're going to take this next game against Morningside as a great challenge, and I hope Defender Nation turns out to support our five seniors on Wednesday night."


Dordt is now 11-7 and Hastings is 5-11


Dordt continues their conference schedule in a home game vs. Morningside. The game is set to begin at 6:00 pm in De Witt Gymnasium.
