HOW IT HAPPENED

Baylee Tetzlaff opened the scoring for the Defenders, hitting a three-pointer off of the Grand View turnover. Dordt took a 5-0 lead after Erika Feenstra's offensive rebound led to a close shot in the paint. Grand View pulled closer after Mia Rosener's second chance opportunity to pull the score within three early in the first quarter. The Defenders then used a 15-2 run that culminated with Riley Van Hulzen's timeout. Both teams traded baskets in the final minute, as the first quarter ended with a 26-10 Dordt lead.

The Defenders extended their lead throughout the second quarter, increasing their advantage to 22 at one point with a Macey Nielson make following a missed jumper and offensive rebound. The Defenders maintained their lead until the half, as Riley Van Hulzen's three in the final seconds gave Dordt a 45-21 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Grand View slowly decreased the Dordt lead, at one point coming within 11 following a Mia Rosener fast break layup after the Dordt turnover. The Defenders answered with 9 points of their own, closing the quarter with a three point shot at the buzzer from Macey Nielson out of the timeout.

Grand View continued to keep it close as the game moved along. Their defense held Dordt without a point through the first four minutes of the final quarter, and Shannon Pisney scored on an and-one to bring the score to a single digit margin. The Defenders got back on track after Karly Gustafson got to the line and made both shots to start a series of free throw opportunities as Dordt was in the bonus. Dordt continued to shoot the ball well from the line and their defense kept Grand View from coming back within single digits, as Dordt secured a non-conference victory.
