The second half was tight to start with a Franken field goal with 15:29 tying the game at 55-55. It was the 11th tie of the game  and it was the last time the score was tied. Jesse Jansma got a couple free throws and then added a two-point shot for a 59-55 lead and Mount Marty responded with a three-point shot from Allen Wilson to make it 59-58.

Jansma answered with a three-point shot to re-establish a four point lead and a technical foul was assessed against Mount Marty on the ensuing possession and Jansma made both free throws for a six point lead. Dejay Fykstra added a two-point shot and Jansma a couple more free throws to establish a 68-58 lead with 10:36 left in the game.

The lead grew to 13 at 73-60 but the Lancers battled back by closing the gap to 80-75 with 4:37 left in the game and it was 86-81 with 2:22 remaining. A Franken basket put Dordt up by seven and the game was never in doubt after that.

Dordt was 31-59 from the field and 10-26 from the three-point line for 52.5 and 38.5 percent respectively.

Mount Marty converted 30-66 field goals and 14-34 three-point shots.  Mount Marty converted 10-21 three-point shots in the first half and was limited to 4-13 shooting in the second half from the arc.

Franken led all players with 27 points and 12 rebounds with three assists and a steal.

Bryce Coppock came off the bench to score 15 with three assists on 5-7 shooting.

Jesse Jansma scored 14 and had four assists and scored all of his points in the second half.

Cade bleeker added 13 and Jacob Vis had 10.  Camden Bialas was 4-4 from the field and scored eight points and had six in the first half.

Jailen Billings scored 26 and converted six three-point shots while Elijah Pappas had 21 points and four assists for Mount Marty.

Dordt is now 8-4 in the GPAC and 13-4 overall while Mount Marty falls to 7-10 overall and 4-8 in the league.

“Our game plan was to keep moving the basketball side to side and try to get some inside looks as much as we could. I thought Camden and Jacob had good games inside and Dejay and Garrett obviously had a great game. You’ve just got to keep scoring because the teams in this league have the ability to put up points. It was good to see Garrett get five offensive boards and make his free throws.  We talked at halftime with Jesse about forcing it a little less and he was much better after that.  We got to the free throw line 27 times and that’s a big deal and we kept our turnovers down.”

Dordt will host Jamestown on Thursday night, January 14 before traveling to Hastings on Saturday, January 16.
