Jamestown def. Dordt 91-74

The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team couldn’t keep up with a hot-shooting Jamestown team on Tuesday night and lost a 91-74 GPAC decision on the road.

Dordt led 7-5 after a Jacob Vis basket but Jamestown scored the next five points as both teams heated up from the floor.  A DeJay Fykstra basket with 10:16 left in the half for a 28-26 deficit.  Dordt eventually battled back from a 32-26 deficit and led briefly at 33-32 with Cade Bleeker cashing in on a pair of free throws.

The Defenders were down 46-42 at halftime and Ben Gesink scored three straight baskets to tie the game at 46 and 48. A 6-0 run by the Jimmies put them ahead for good and extended the lead to as much as 21 before the final of 91-74.

Dordt converted 28-57 from the field but struggled from the three-point line with a 2-15 day.

Jamestown was 30-66 from the field and 16-35 from the three-point line for 45.5 percent success.

Both teams excelled at the free throw line with Dordt making 16-18 and Jamestown was 15-16.

Jacob Vis led Dordt with 14 points while Ben Gesink and Jesse Jansma had 13 each.

Cade Bleeker added 10 while Garrett Franken had eight points and six rebounds with three assists.

Dordt was outrebounded 37-31.

“We played well in the first half, shared the ball, moved and passed well.  In the second half we didn’t move the ball as well and we began to stand around—that was disappointing.”

Dordt will host Hastings on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
