The Dordt Defender women’s cross country team finished second at the Morningside Invite on Saturday morning, September 19 in a race run at Adams Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, South Dakota.
The Defenders finished with 53 points and were 14 points behind Iowa Central Community College.
Taylor Anema led the Defender effort with a fifth-place finish of 18:30 on the 5,000 meter course. Jessica Kampman and Eden Winslow ran seventh and eighth for the Defenders with times of 18:44 and 18:47. Bethany Ten Haken was 15th for Dordt and ran 19:26 and Tiana Schroeder was Dordt’s final scorer with a time of 19:36 to finish 18th.
The Defenders finished 33 points in front of Monringside and Hastings was 53 points back of Dordt in fourth place.
Faith Chepengat from Iowa Western Community College won the race in 17:23 as she was able to outduel an Iowa Central runner. Chepengat is the defending national champion in the National Junior College division.
10 teams and 103 runners made up the field.

The women had an excellent second meet of the year. The women were once again led by Taylor Anema who was the top NAIA finisher behind four junior college women. Jessica Kampman and Eden Winslow raced the strongest races of their careers, breaking 19:00 for the first time. Bethany Ten Haken and Tiana Schroeder continued their strong year, moving very well over the last 3,000 meters of the race and closing the scoring five time gap to 1:06."
Dordt is scheduled to run in two weeks back at the Adams Nature Reserve at the Briar Cliff Invite.
