HOW IT HAPPENED

Nearly 17 minutes into the first half, the Doane Tigers got out to an early lead over the Defenders with a goal from Reynaldo Villafuerte. Nathan Wanninger attempted the next shot for Dordt, which was saved by Doane's goalkeeper. The following possession, Kobi Smith added to the Doane lead with an assist from Camilo Porto. In the closing seconds of the half, Dordt's Johnathon Carlo attempted a header that went wide left, holding the score at 2-0 at halftime.

The second half opened with another quick goal by Doane, as Kobi Smith scored his second goal of the game to make the score 3-0. After a shot by Brandon Hansen was saved, Joe Wanninger followed by scoring on the second chance to give the Defenders their first goal of the game. The Tigers answered five minutes later as Gilberto Rodriguez entered the scoring column. Asher Brown was next to score for Dordt to cut the deficit to two goals. Despite an aggressive push in the final two minutes of the contest, the Defenders could not create another scoring chance, as the final score held in Doane's favor.
