Northwestern def. Dordt 2-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern kept control of possession throughout much of the game and won their second matchup of the year against the Defenders 2-1. The first half saw the Red Raiders keep pressure on the Dordt defense, taking a 13-2 shot advantage into the half. One of Dordt's first half shots came in the final minute of the half from freshman midfielder Johnathon Carlo, but his shot went wide of the net, keeping the score knotted at 0-0 going into halftime.
The pressure from Northwestern allowed the Red Raiders to take the lead early in the second half, as senior forward Juan Mackrey scored off of a corner kick at 41:27. Northwestern continued to keep the ball on their side of the field, and it was with 12:10 to go in the game when Juan Mackrey added another goal to give Northwestern a 2-0 lead. With four minutes to go in the game, Ethan Ward's pass to Quintin Olson helped the Defenders cut the deficit in half. However, Northwestern was able to secure the ball and only give Dordt one more last-second chance, giving the Red Raiders a 2-1 win.
