Hastings def. Dordt 1-0

In an evenly matched contest, neither team was able to get into the scoring column until the second overtime on Senior Day for the Defenders.

Dordt took the first shots of the game as Alaina Van Zalen's early attempt went above the net. At the 13-minute mark, a corner kick by Cailey Terpstra flew in front of the goal, nearly connecting with Hannah Glynn, but the series was interrupted by the Broncos. Between 27 and 28 minutes into the game, back-to-back attempts from Kaitlyn Chavira were stopped by Elianna Van Hulzen to keep the score tied at zero. In the final five minutes of the half, Van Hulzen saved another Hastings shot for her fourth save of the half.

Hastings opened the second half with two shot attempts that went wide, and controlled play through the first 20 minutes of the half. Katherine Kooiman followed with multiple shots on goal that were saved by Hastings goalkeeper Sarah Carpenter. With less than five minutes in regulation, both Alaina Van Zalen's and Katherine Kooiman's shot attempts were stopped by Carpenter.

In the first overtime period, the ball was on Dordt's side for most of the 10 minute period. With six minutes played in the second overtime, Jacqueline Gilbert scored the game-winning goal for the Broncos.

Katherine Kooiman attempted 4 shots on goal

Elianna Van Hulzen had 7 saves

Hastings led in shot attempts 14-11

"Tough loss to end the regular season, but I’m proud of the way these girls competed all season. The fall has had some ups and downs but I’m excited that the season isn’t completely over. I’m hopeful that we will be in the GPAC tournament next spring and we get to continue to play soccer. I’m thankful for all 10 seniors and the contribution that each of them brought to the program. The work isn’t finished yet, but their leadership has been crucial to the direction this program is trying to go."

Dordt's regular season came to a close today. The Defenders have a chance at a bid in the GPAC Tournament, which will take place in Spring 2021.
