Viterbo def. Dordt 4-2

How It Happened

Dordt held a 1-0 lead going into halftime following an early goal by Emma Visser. After the first 45 minutes, Emma Weber and Abbie Mumm each scored a goal within the opening five minutes of the second half to give Viterbo a 2-1 lead.

Viterbo added on to their lead with two more goals near the 70-minute mark. Dordt senior Alaina Van Zalen scored her fourth goal of the season with 3:05 to go, but the score was unable to spark a late rally for the Defenders.

The Numbers

Emma Visser scored her 2nd goal of the season, and Alaina Van Zalen scored her 4th.

Dordt held a 14-10 advantage in total shots, leading 12-5 in shots on goal.

Coach Durbin Said

"It took us too long to find our rhythm today. Our style this year is very different from years past and we are still learning how to play our game. We eventually found our rhythm in the 70th minute and we dominated play for the last 20 minutes. But we can't just do it for small sections of the game, we have to play a full 90 minutes."

The Defenders will play at home against Briar Cliff on Wednesday, September 16 in their GPAC opener. The game will be held at Open Space Park and is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
