Dordt def. Concordia 41-14
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders proved to be too much for Concordia on Saturday afternoon, October 24 in Seward, Nebraska. Dordt led 20-0 at halftime and forged a 41-14 win over the hosts in GPAC play. The game was played in dry but cold conditions.
The Defenders opened the game with an 11-play, 67 yard drive that was capped with a Noah Clayberg five yard touchdown run. The drive also included a third and eight conversion and fourth and five conversion to keep the drive going.
Concordia threatened on its next possession but coughed up the ball at the Dordt 30 and Brayton Van Kekerix pounced on the loose ball and the first quarter eventually ended with Dordt leading 7-0.
Dordt’s lead grew to 14-0 with a 70 yard drive that took 13 plays and ended with Michael Sondermann plunging into the end zone from three yards out.
Dordt’s last two possessions of the first half resulted in 24 and 29 yard field goals by Brett Zachman to make the score 20-0 at the intermission.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 76 yard drive for a score but Dordt pushed the lead back to 20 with Levi Jungling making a catch over two defenders for a 22 yard scoring strike from Clayberg.
Jalen Placide ended Concordia’s scoring threat on the next drive with an interception at the goal line that he returned all the way to Concordia’s 18. A personal foul penalty gave Dordt first and goal at the eight and Noah Large grabbed a four yard pass in the back of the end zone for a 34-7 lead. Dordt finished their scoring with a Clayberg to Eli Boldan 18 yard catch with 8:21 left in the game. The pass finished an 88 yard drive.
Concordia added touchdown late for the 41-14 final.
Dordt outgained Concordia 499-264 with 268 in the air and 231 on the ground. Concordia was limited to 105 yards rushing.
Noah Clayberg had 16 rushes for 99 yards and one touchdown and he completed 21-32 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
Levi Jungling caught nine passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
Ben Heuvelhorst caught five passes for 42 yards and Jayden Huisman had two catches for 36 yards.
Hayden Large caught three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown.
Four different Defenders, Josh Mrazek, Colton Vander Berg, Colyn Oostenink and Jake Buekelman had a sack each.
The Defenders totaled 15 tackles for loss.
Brayton Van Kekerix had seven tackles to go with his fumble recovery.
Abe Stoesz, Josh Mrazek and David Kacmarynski all had six tackles.
Dordt is now 5-1
