Benedictine def. Dordt 10-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender baseball team lost game two of its doubleheader with Benedictine on Tuesday afternoon in Atchison, Kansas.
The Ravens scored five in the third inning on the way to a 10-1 win.
Dordt got its run in the fourth inning when John Emerson and Luis Camacho had back to back doubles to start the inning but the next batters were retired.
The hosts put the game out of reach with four runs in the fifth inning and then tacked on a run in the sixth inning.
Dordt did get two runners on in the top of the sixth inning but came away empty.
Dordt was outhit 10-4.
Four different players had one hit each for the Defenders.
Emerson and Camacho had Dordt’s extra base hit with doubles and David Laurenti and Tyce Marquez each had singles.
Logan Cline, Emerson and Cam Pfafman all reached on walks.
Dordt used four different pitchers with Willem Hoekstra taking the loss in two and a third innings of work. Dordt’s starter allowed five runs on three this with a walk and two strikeouts.
Kevin Fokkema struck out four in an inning and two-thirds and Justin Bond and Cole Vande Vegte each pitched an inning.
Dordt is now 0-2 while Benedictine improves to 9-2.
Dordt will face McPherson this Friday and Saturday in non-conference play.
