Benedictine def. Dordt 9-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
A three run fourth inning by the host Benedictine Ravens broke up a scoreless tie with the Dordt Defenders in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon in Atchison, Kansas and propelled Benedictine to a 9-2 win in game one of the doubleheader.
Dordt threatened in the top of the fourth with a walk to John Emerson and a single by Cam Pfafman. A fly ball out advanced the runners to second and third but a ground out ended the threat.
The Ravens answered the threat with three runs on four hits in the fourth and then added six runs on four hits and two errors in the fifth inning.
The Defenders got on the board in the sixth inning with Luis Camacho reaching on an error and he eventually scored on an Emerson groundball out to shortstop. Pfafman knocked in Logan Cline who had walked earlier in the inning with his third hit of the game. A ground out ended the inning and both teams went scoreless in their next at bats for the 9-2 final.
Dordt was outhit 10-4 and committed a pair of errors.
Isaac Vander Hart was the starter and pitched three and two-third innings and allowed three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Vander Hart took the loss.
Peyton Stockwell pitched an inning of scoreless ball and faced the minimum in the sixth inning.
Pfafman had three of Dordt’s four hits a with three singles and he knocked in a run. Emerson had Dordt’s other single.
Three different Defenders worked for walks.
