Briar Cliff defeats Dordt 9-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender baseball team battled back from two deficits but was unable to overcome Briar Cliff in non-conference action at Tucson, Arizona on Saturday.
Briar Cliff scored two in the bottom of the first inning but Dordt responded with two in the top of the second with Logan Cline scoring on an error after reaching on a triple. Dordt eventually loaded the bases and a ground ball out by Andrew Pullar scored a second run to tie the game.
In the bottom of the third inning Dordt allowed three runs on three hits and trailed 5-2 before getting two back in the fifth inning on singles by Austin Pullar and Lucas Nelson.
Trailing 5-4 the Defenders gave up four runs in the sixth inning and never recovered, stranding one runner each in the seventh and eighth innings.
Dordt was outhit 12-10 and Briar Cliff committed the only two errors of the game.
Logan Cline was 3-4 at the plate with single, double and triple.
Alexander Chavez and Lucas Nelson each had a pair of singles for Dordt.
Kevin Fokkema started the game and went four and a third innings with five hits, five runs and three strikeouts.
Caleb Pollema pitched the final three innings with one run allowed on five hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
