Dordt def. Dickinson State 7-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders made it a six game winning streak to start the season with a 7-1 win over Dickinson State on Saturday in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Dordt’s Marissa Vanden Berg broke up the scoreless tie with a double that plated Ella Koster in the third inning and Hailey Heeringa delivered a single to make it 2-0 in the inning.
Koster figured into Dordt’s third run with a single in the that scored Natalie Fopma in the fourth inning.
Leading 3-0 the Defenders got run scoring singles by Jane Wynja and Erin Bredemus to go up 6-0 and both teams scored a run in the seventh inning for the final of 7-1.
Dordt had a 14-5 hits advantage.
Dordt had two hits days by Bredemus, Haylee Heims, Emma Veenstra and Brooklyn Van Oort. Bredemus had two runs batted in and also worked for a walk.
Marissa Vanden Berg and Chandler Schemper each had a double and Ella Koster had a single and two bases on balls.
Abby Kraemer went the distance on the mound and allowed five hits with one run, two walks and five strikeouts.
Dordt is now 6-0 after its first weekend of play.
Dordt will be off until February 28 and 29 when the Defenders are scheduled to go to MidAmerica Nazarene and Park for a pair of non-conference doubleheaders.
