Dordt def. St. Norbert 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-21)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men’s volleyball team was in control for much of its match against St. Norbert in a tri-angular played at Viterbo in La Crosse, Wisconsin and won their first match of the season in commanding 3-0 fashion.
The Defenders got four straight ace serves from Garret Vander Zee to go from up 12-10 to up 16-10 in the first set and went on to win the contest 25-16.
Set two had the Defenders grabbing an 11-6 lead and never led by less than four from the 13-9 mark on in winning again 25-16. Vander Zee provided the finishing work with a kill for the 2-0 match win.
Set three followed much the same pattern with Dordt getting up 14-8. St. Norbert did cut the lead down to three on a couple occasions but got now closer with the Defenders getting a 25-21 victory for the sweep.
Dordt piled up a .417 kill efficiency with 39 kills, nine errors and 72 attacks. The Defenders limited St. Norbert to .085 and forced 16 attack errors.
Dordt had seven points off of blocks and had eight service aces against just three for St. Norbert.
Vander Zee had 13 kills and four service aces with four digs and he handled 11 serve receptions cleanly.
Caleb Kulesza had ten kills and Luke Nelson added five.
Tyler Postma put up 29 assists and had five digs with and ace and was in on one solo and two assisted blocks.
Shavon Barker had four block assists and four kills.
