HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders were swept 3-0 by Viterbo in their second of two matches on Saturday. It was the final game of the Saturday triangle in Sioux Center.
The first set was back and forth for its majority. The score was tied at 17, but Viterbo was able to finish the set on an 8-1 run to take it 25-18.
Set two was dominated by the V-Hawks from the beginning. Viterbo shot off to a 12-4 lead and never looked back. The V-Hawks kept their foot down and earned the 25-12 victory in set two.
Dordt had the score tied at nine early in the third set, but couldn't do enough to take the lead. Viterbo took a 17-15 lead a few minutes later and eventually secured the 25-18 victory to finish the sweep.
Garret Vander Zee had eight kills and Shavon Barker had six in the loss.
Tyler Postma led Dordt with 19 assists.
Brett Thompson led both teams with 17 kills and Jacob Nonn had 12.
Andrew Lepage had 30 assists to lead the V-Hawks.
Dordt will travel to Sioux City on Tuesday to take on Briar Cliff at 7 p.m.
