Park def. Dordt 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-13, 25-19)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt lost a 3-1 decision to Park in men’s volleyball on Saturday afternoon in Parkville, Missouri.
The Pirates pulled away from a 9-9 tie in the first set to score nine in a row. Dordt closed to withing 20-17 later in the set but fell 25-18.
Set two saw the Defenders even the match at a set apiece with a 25-19 win. Dordt took the lead for good with back to back points to grab a 9-8 advantage. A four point run later in the set put Dordt up 16-11 and the run was punctuated by a Garret Vander Zee kill. Dordt controlled the rest of the set as Park never really challenged in falling by the six point margin.
Park scored nine out of ten points midway through the third set for a 17-8 lead and rolled to a 25-13 win.
Dordt answered by taking an 8-7 lead in set four but four straight points put the hosts up for good and the fought off Dordt’s comeback attempts for a 25-19 win. Dordt got as close as 20-17 in the loss.
Vander Zee led the Dordt effort with 20 kills and had a .310 kill efficiency.
Park had nine service aces and 12 service errors. Dordt had one ace and eight errors.
Park accounted for ten points off of blocks and Dordt had nine.
Caleb Kulesza, Brandon Vaags and Luke Nelson all had five kills and Tyler Postma had 29 assists.
Luke Nelson and Tyler Postma had five block assists each.
Levi Ewald had nine digs for the Defenders.
Dordt is 4-8 overall and 0-6 in the league.
Park is 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
Dordt will travel to Jamestown, North Dakota on Friday, March 6 before returning home to face Lincoln on Saturday, March 7.
