HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt University men's volleyball team lost its home opener 3-1 to Jamestown on Saturday. It was the first of two Saturday games for the Defenders.
Dordt kept pace with Jamestown during set one and tied things at eight. The Jimmies broke the set open and went on a 7-1 run to make it 15-9. The Defenders weren't able to recover and dropped set one 25-18.
The Jimmies took a 7-3 lead early in set two and the Defenders struggled to mount enough of a comeback. Dordt managed to pull within three and made it 23-20 late in the set. The Jimmies responded with a quick run and pulled out the 25-21 victory in set two.
The Defenders responded well in set three and had a 10-6 lead early. The Jimmies made it 16-15 halfway through the set and eventually tied things at 19. Dordt went on a 6-1 run to finish the set and win 25-20.
Jamestown took set four 25-20 and earned the 3-1 victory. The score was tied at 12 before Jamestown began to pull away. Dordt cut the deficit to 17-18, but the Jimmies finished the game with a run to seal the victory.
Garret Vander Zee had 23 kills and Caleb Kulesza had six in the game.
Tyler Postma had 37 assists in the defeat.
Clark Steele had 16 kills and Nick Vanags had 14 in the loss.
Both Derek Owens and Caylor Cox had 10 kills.
Derek Correa had 44 assists.
Dordt will take on Briar Cliff in Sioux City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
